Colin's system:
Source: Linn LP12/Avondale TAPS/Rega RB300/Denon DL103 & Micromega Leader II
Amplifications: Meridian 101 preamp-->Meridian 105 power amp

Colin runs a rare rosewood finish Briks with vintage Meridian amplifications. Way back when, Naim and Linn were the defacto amplifiers to be used with the Briks but Meridian 101/105 monoblocks were also the alternative for those who did not wan to go the conventional route. Meridian offered three pair sof 105s and no crossover! Each pair of 105s were customised to Briks' treble, mid and bass.

His system contains TWO LP12 in which one of them was built from scratch ( like mine ) just for the fun of it and he use it to test changes on one and compare it to the other and he admits the one he built sound better within a mixture of compornents of different vintages.

A close-up shot of a cartridge is a famed Denon DL103 without the plastic body. ( sure looks cooler that way. :))

Colin comments:"The Briks are rosewood which I find gives them a nice, warm look and helps them to blend in as much as two huge boxes can. I have used an LP12 and classic Linn speakers, Kans, Saras or Isobariks, for over twenty years now and I have never felt the need to change the habit. For most of that time I also used Naim electronics but switching to the more tuneful old Meridian amps has been one of the best things I’ve done. I used a Linn Ittok for twenty years too but replacing it with a (tweaked) RB300 has also been great. These substitutions, with a few other modifications, have resulted in a system that is the most pleasing I have ever owned. Although not the last word in any area it is very well rounded, satisfying and one of the most musical systems I’ve ever heard.

I find vinyl so much better than CD that my CD player lives behind a sofa much of the time. I Have a few more modifications on the horizon, and more Mana is always great, but I’m really happy as it is."
